Today's fitting in a gorgeous kitchen diner. I had made several pairs of lined and interlined curtains in this open plan living space, but it took a little while to decide on whether or not to add this last. It's a big door opening out to the garden, and the pair on the left-hand side have been left untethered so that both curtains can be pulled to the right when the door is open. They still stack back neatly, even then. I have been pattern matching this pretty fabric today; one pair of interlined curtains coming up. This pretty fabric has a dark side; it is a half drop pattern repeat. This is a feature created by the designer to torture, bamboozle and otherwise upset innocent curtain makers*. Still, lots of tricky maths, deep breathing, dancing around the table and fear about making that first cut, and we are there. It's time to get the ladies fed ready for winter. I always leave a full super of honey on each hive, but I like to top up each colony with sugar syrup, too, in case of a mild wet winter. In a cold winter, the honeybees will hunker down and keep in a cluster around the queen, but in milder weather, they will fly and need additional honey for the extra energy that takes. It's International Left Hander day today; who knew there was such a thing? 😄 Anyhoo, in celebration, here's mine. Yes, I am a left hander. One of about 13% of the population. I can't really say I have strong feelings about it either way. I do remember that my fingers used to be covered in ink at school (writing left to right over wet ink and at least they had stopped tying your left hand behind your back, like previous generations) and wearing a watch on my right hand means all my long sleeves fray at the cuffs eventually. Lots of cutlery is designed for right handers too; cake forks, grapefruit spoons, fish knives....all stuff I don't use much 😄 Fortunately I cut fabric with my right hand, so no need for special scissors.
